This year has completely thrown everyone for a loop. I got to know Marissa and Matthew during their amazing engagement pictures last year. Their love and support of one another was obvious. We were so excited for their sure to be amazing wedding in Chico this summer, we met and went over itineraries and all of the little details and wishes that were going to make this day one that they and their guests would remember forever. As covid reared its ugly head and the date got closer we talked multiple times about how the event was going to change and be simplified. They had been debating for months, watching the numbers climb and people's anxiety grow, during a tearful conversation she let me know the week before that they had decided to call it. They didn't want to put their guest's health in jeopardy. This couple has been through so much, she is a fighter, survivor and has the best perspective on what is really important. This is was to be much more than a celebration of their vows but a celebration of life. We decided to take pictures in the mountains that weekend of the two of them and her parents. We wanted them to have a moment of joy amidst the emotional let down of the weekend. She wore the dress she had dreamed of walking down the aisle in, he looked cowboy dapper and they were able to love and laugh and focus on each other. It was so beautiful to see them together happy and enjoying every moment. I was so thankful to be able to capture that special night!
