I had never shot in this location before, but was excited to find it right before our shoot, I think it is perfect with her instrument. Thanks Mary for a fun afternoon!

Matt

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Matt is a great guy, from a fabulous family. He was very entertaining to photograph, he kept pulling out all of these crazy faces and poses that his mom warned him she would use for blackmail later on, you’ll have to ask him to see those. Thanks for a fun afternoon.

This ancient wood door is now on my growing list of wonderful places that have been torn down. I saw this weathered peeling door and knew it would be great to photograph, I went back shortly after I photographed Matt and it was gone, replaced by new ugly pine boards with zero character. The same happened to a rusted corrugated metal shed that had fantastic vines growing all over it. It was amazing, the colors in the rust were magical, it was gorgeous, I was happy and excited to return to see an old friend at the end of the summer and much to my surprise it was gone. So sad…..

Can you believe this stunning photo? Sometimes when I take a picture I get goosebumps, not having anything to do with me, it’s just when the photography stars align, the subjects are gorgeous, the light hits them perfectly and they give me the look that shows connection and peace. I know in that instant it will be fabulous. forweb1forweb2

They ordered this picture of Sophie in a huge canvas, it is breathtaking. I opened the huge canvas box and sighed, love at first sight. Aren’t her eyes incredible?

This was such a fantastic senior shoot. Jori was so fun to work with, he had great ideas and was willing to try anything, a collaboration of artists minds… People always ask me what my favorite types of shoots are, they are all super for different reasons. I love the innocence and purity of newborns, downside, I am always peed on. Kids are so hilarious but every 2-3 year old can have one of those days, it can take a lot of me jumping around like an idiot to get a real smile on their face. Families are a whole different animal, I love seeing family dynamics and love oozing everywhere when you get parents lovey-dovey with their kiddos. Weddings – I love the pics of the bride and groom when I can steal them away from everyone and let them have their “moment” during that amazing day, they gaze into each others eyes so adoringly, it’s so smoochy. Seniors are FUN – they come ready to show their personality, and do exciting things, like jumping off of train platforms. I am so lucky to do what I do, I love it!

Doesn’t this first pic look like the perfect cover for his first album? Go for it Jori!

Brant and Emily’s wedding was on a gorgeous late summer day. When we did the pre-wedding meeting it was all business but they definitely know how to have a good time, even grandma was shaking her groove thing at the reception.

This gorgeous girl came all the way from Townsend to have her senior pics done. She was so bubbly and fun, when I asked her mom to tell me her favorite quality of Hunter’s she didn’t hesitate and told me how she makes everyone around her smile, no lie. Hunter was so great to work with, she had me smiling the whole time. Thanks Hunter for making the trek, you are fabulous!

a knight and princess

This may be one of my all time favorite shoots. Parents are always asking me what to have their children wear, this fab mom asked me if we could do something a little different, of course I am always ready to mix it up. She told me that she wanted to take one of their family and have her daughters in dresses (the one dress they own) they never wear dresses, it just isn’t them, so I inquired what they are really like, she proceeded to tell me how much they love to dress up, Moe loves to be the knight. I was thrilled to capture the girls playing, laughing and loving, just as they are. These are the pictures that they will cherish as a family forever, not ones of them dresssed perfectly but the ones that really show the girls at this time in their life. It actually made me a bit teary since my girls are just past doing the princess thing, but I am looking forward to capturing many more knights and princesses in action during shoots.

I know some photographers dread or even refuse to do an “extended family” shoot, but I have grown to love them, it is so fun to watch the family interact and the grandparents are on cloud 9 having all of their children and grandchildren around, pure bliss for them.
